abhishekbachchan1

Abhishek Bachchan has completed his first decade in Bollywood. The actor who made his debut with J.P. Duta’s Refugee in 2000 worked in about 14-15 films before he got his first hit with Dhoom. And the Bachchans are now contemplating throwing a big private bash at their residence to celebrate the same.

Our source said, “The Bachchans have not had a celebration party after Abhishek’s wedding with Aishwarya three years back. Now they want to celebrate this occasion and Big B is also keen. He thinks it is time to thank everyone who has been instrumental in building Abhishek’s career. Amitabh himself is known to be a gracious man and this was evident when he publicly apologised to Salim Khan a few days ago after he learnt that Khan was upset with him.
As part of the celebrations, they plan to invite each and every filmmaker that Abhishek has worked with in the last 10 years. However, the bash is still in the planning stage and things will be finalised in a month or so.

Actor Abhishek Bachchan is yet to make his mark in Hollywood

abhishe

While his wifey Aishwarya Rai is already famous worldwide and has worked with stars like Steve Martin and Ben Kingsley, Abhishek Bachchan is yet to make his mark in Hollywood.

Speaking in CNN’s ‘Connect the World’ programme, Abhishek said he’s game to work in Hollywood if a good offer comes along.

“Why not? The lines are blurring, there’s been a lot of exchange in terms of talent, technical as well as acting, among European, British, American and Indian cinema. If there is a script that is appealing enough then most definitely,” Abhishek said.

However, the actor did not sound overawed by the idea of working in Hollywood. On the contrary, he hopes that Hollywood stars should come and work in Bollywood.

“I’d rather ask when are they going to come and act in our films and dance around trees with fifty people? That would be far more interesting,” said the 34-year-old star.

The Bachchan family seems to be truly ruling the filmdom

141

It seems that Lady fortune is smiling generously at the Bachchan clan - ‘Pa, Bahu and Beta’. While ‘Pa’ Amitabh is busy acknowledging applause for his recent hits like ‘Paa’ and ‘Rann’ and ‘Beta’ Abhishek enthralling the small screen audience, ‘Bahu’ Aishwarya Rai has become the highest paid actress in Bollywood. The green-eyed beauty has received an offer of Rs 10 crores!

The offer has reportedly come from producer Bobby Pushkarna of the critically acclaimed film `Page 3`. Bobby is desperate to sign only Ash and has been pursuing her for three months. The movie is said to be on the lines of Jagmohan Mundra’s ‘Provoked’, which has Aishwarya in the main lead.

Ash has left the current reigning actresses’ quite far behind, with this latest deal in her bouquet. Sources reveal that B-town’s high-princess Kareena Kapoor charges around Rs 7 crores and glam-doll Priyanka Chopra claims Rs 5 crores per film.

The gorgeous actress, who is one of the most well-known Indian faces at the international front, is charging more than most of the heroes as well.

We can only say that, the ‘Bachchan’ family seems to be truly ruling the filmdom!

Abhishek Bachchan's 'Bingo' will replace reality show 'Bigg Boss 3'

Abhishe

Bollywood star Abhishek Bachchan seems to be following his father, megastar Amitabh Bachchan, wherever he can. If the grapevine is to be believed, Abhishek is now set to host a new show titled ’Bingo’ on entertainment channel Colors.

"Abhishek is doing a show called ’Bingo’ with us. It’s a very interesting concept but details cannot be given out at this point, " a source from the channel told on condition of anonymity.

Though the show’s format is still unclear, it is expected to be based on a person’s laziness quotient, as indicated by a special website created to promote it.

The show’s teasers, featuring Abhishek in a chilled out mood, are already on air on the channel. According to the teasers, "Abhishek’s Aaram Classes" are "opening shortly". However, when contacted Abhishek’s spokesperson, she denied the news.

"Abhishek is not doing any TV show. It is just a website with various interactive applications. I recommend everyone to register on the website and test their laziness and look at the various lazy tips, " she said over phone from Mumbai.

Asked if there is any TV show being produced by AB Corp Limited featuring Abhishek, his spokesperson said: "AB Corp Ltd is not producing anything for TV at the moment."

Simultaneously, rumours have been rife that ’Bingo’ will replace reality show ’Bigg Boss 3’, being hosted by Amitabh, after its finale Dec 26. But the channel’s source denied, saying: "’Bigg Boss 3’ will be replaced by our two new shows - ’Yeh Pyaar Na Hoga Kam’ and ’Laagi Tujhse Lagan’, not by ’Bingo’."

The flood of cinema celebrities on television has arrived

bachchb

With ‘Rocket Singh -Salesman of the year’ paying an ode to the oiled, over-the-top and dramatic tribe of pushy ‘Salesman’ we do a round-up of the superstars who with their perfect set of white teeth, flawless skin and oodles of superstardom have pushed the poor fashion models to the background and taken the onus of selling us products that we never thought existed or wanted either!

Crisscrossing from the boundaries of cinema to television we had the man- the Mard of Bollywood ahem!

Mr. Amitabh Bachchan selling herbal oils, the possession of which was usually frowned upon as the indulgences of hoi polloi by the elite class.

But apparently, after the blessings of the Sarkar this relatively Lawaaris oil brand was lapped up in numbers and occupied the much-coveted space on the toiletries shelve with the imported shea butter creams.

And while we were still rubbing our eyes on how the Big B can be all thand thand coolum coolum amidst the eyesore garish backdrops, he made us do a double take and left us Nishabd with promises of miracle churan to cool the Toofan of gastric flatulence.

Well this was just the trickle, the flood of cinema celebrities on television has arrived and how! Taking over the cheesy brand ambassadors, ‘stars’ replaced them with even oilier smiles and taller claims. This new breed of ‘Star’ salesman left us gaping at the undue credit to shady products, stuff you know for sure won’t be around 200 feet of these ‘stars’ under normal circumstances.

Feeding a breed of star-starved nation the ad-man found the perfect savior to bail out a market fed by Chinese products. Roping in the badshahs and shahanshah the average Joe was short changed into believing a complexion makeover of the sort Michael Jackson had by none other than Shahrukh Khan.

Borrowing catchphrases of eunuch beggars, the ‘Fairness cream for men’ ad had overbearing lines like ‘Hai Handsome!’ where Shahrukh preens, pouts and saves the day of a ‘black boy’ while simultaneously skyrocketing the stock of the cream that promises to blur the racial divide with its ‘imported’ ingredients.

Well this ‘Salesman’ might have burnt a hole in the company’s budget with his over-the-top endorsement fee, but hey! Who said the world is ‘fair’!

And now, when we are talking of fair it would be highly unfair to leave the fair maidens out of the ‘salesman of the year’ race.

Who else but Asin could have coaxed you to shell out exorbitant sums of money for something you could have easily picked up in the basket sale of Fashion Street.

Here a special mention goes to Salman Khan for his vest-ed interest in Dollar shop stuff. Sallu shows the world that you can get away with anything- including running with kids in a race and beating them to the finish line, is all perfectly fine, as long as you have the right brand of baniyan. Moving on to his ‘Lady love’…

Well one could have never thought that ‘Lady’ Katrina Kaif will be scrubbing clean with a piece of soap that was best left back at the store shelve.

But Katrina convincingly demonstrates the wonders of a low-budget soap that will give a clear complexion to a fairly large family. Waltzing between the bathtub and jungle Katrina finds the answer to all her beauty queries and in the process puzzles one and all on her highly questionable choice of bath soap.

Speaking of bathing choices, Kareena Kapoor has nailed it; playing dirty with chocolate this Kapoor kudi sold the dream of a beautiful skin to millions looking deliciously dirty.

Who said soap could be sold off only by playing bubbles in bathtub…Kareena proved them wrong by dunking in a bar of dark chocolate soap, which by the way, is way cheaper than an average bar of chocolate.

But that certainly will not qualify Bebo for the salesman of the year award as we yet have to explore the potential of Virar boy, Govinda, and his magical smile, which was never put to adequate use by the dant manjan companies.

Nevertheless Govinda shone bright selling hair oil, a match made in heaven only to be destroyed by the Big B. The guy was in his element before Big B stole his show and hair oil.

And for that Big B ends up with the salesman of the year award too, after all, credit does go to him for educating us on the power of a certain washing detergent that makes a white shirt whiter-er-er-est…

Paa’s premiere venue will be decorated like a child’s nursery

Paa

Paa’s premiere in Mumbai on December 3rd is set to start with Abhishek Bachchan entering the premiere carrying his Paa, Amitabh Bachchan on piggyback. This was Abhishek’s idea and he wants to go ahead with it, despite Amitabh trying to dissuade him as it may have a bad effect on Abhi’s back.

Paa’s premiere venue will be decorated like a child’s nursery. Paa is being depended upon to be a success as it is AB Corp’s first film in five years. Amitabh was supposed to, initially, be dressed up as Auro, his character in the film. But they decided against the idea, as the makeup artist would have to especially be flown in from the US and Amitabh as Auro would prove to be distracting for the guests.

Amitabh will receive the guests at the premiere along with the six child actors who play his friends in the film -Nimit, Pratik, Taruni, Varun, Gaurav and Dhruven. All friends of the Bachchans’ are invited to the premiere.

20th Century Fox to collaborating with Kollywood and Bollywood

fox-col

Having tapped the Indian market by distributing films like "Slumdog Millionaire " and "Quick Gun Murugun", Hollywood studio Fox Star now wants to foray into production by collaborating with the "best talent". And language is no bar.

"We only want to do five films a year. We are trying to really focus on and pick those films that audiences are really passionate about. We want to make films which entertain audiences and are commercially successful," Fox Star CEO Vijay Singh said in an interview.

"What is critical is that those five films have to represent something different about Bollywood going forward. We have to make sure that the elements and the process are right. We want to work with the best talent and that best talent could manifest itself with us," he added.

Singh stressed a "portfolio" approach to the movies that would have a combo of "big, medium and small-budget" films.

"What we`ve set up in India is a studio approach (that is) both production and distribution. Our focus is to take the Bollywood films we make to the diaspora across the world," said Singh.

"What we are trying to do is to see how we can do films which have something different about them. Looking back at the last 12-18 months, anything that`s working in Bollywood has a point of difference as doing more of the same is no longer the way out. Bollywood till date is making films only for Indians and the diaspora, but times are changing," he added.

Fox Star has been hogging the limelight for acquiring the global rights of Karan Johar`s upcoming film "My Name Is Khan" - excluding music rights - reportedly for USD 20 million.

" `My Name Is Khan` is one of the most anticipated films and it doesn`t get bigger than that and we are really excited about it," he said.

"We`ve also signed on a two-film deal each with Vipul (Amrutlal) Shah and AR Murugadoss. With Murugadoss, it`s going to be Tamil films and with Vipul, it`ll be mainstream cinema. We have another two-three films in a developing stage, but we would not like to announce them now," he added.

As far as distribution goes, films made in India under Fox Star will be distributed here by that company, in the US by its sister company Fox Searchlight and in the rest of the world by parent group 20th Century Fox.

The studio has also been regularly releasing its international content in Tamil and Telugu dubbed versions apart from those in Hindi and English.

Singh said: "If we release only in English, we find that there is a scarcity of consumers. But if we are able to dub them, we are able to reach a much wider audience.

"There are a lot of people who are keen to see a Hollywood film but may be they are more comfortable hearing it in a language or idiom they are more familiar with and these four languages (Hindi, English, Tamil and Telugu) represent the biggest language opportunities that exist (here)," he explained.

A late entrant in the Indian market (2008), the joint venture company between 20th Century Fox and Asian media company Star, it has been maintaining an impressive growth rate especially after multiple-Oscar winning underdog drama "Slumdog Millionaire" that did a business of around Rs. 40 crore (Rs 400 million) in India alone.

Fox Star is also looking at a sequel to "Quick Gun...", tentatively titled "The Good, The Bad and The Idli".
