Actor Shah Rukh Khan feels that Aamir Khan is his friend

aamir-s

While media might be painting them as bitter rivals, SRK feels that Aamir Khan is his friend.

Talking to a newspaper in an interview Shah Rukh said , “We’re friends. At least, I’d like to think we are. We both have a sense of humour. At least, I do. I’d like to think all our exchanges are in good humour. Quite honestly, I’ve no desire to look at what he or anyone else is doing. I never look at my own box-office figures. Why would I look at others’ collections?”

Just a few days back, the politically correct Aamir said that there was never any war of supremacy so there is no question of starting or stopping any debate.

Aamir’s ‘3 Idiots’ was a mega blockbuster, and at the same time Shah Rukh’s ‘My Name Is Khan’ too went on to become a hit worldwide. So, is he looking at a whole shelf of awards for MNIK next year?

“Why clear a shelf in my house? I’ll buy a new house for the awards to come,” SRK retorted.

Star Aamir Khan talking about the future of cinema with James Cameron

joints_

Bollywood star Aamir Khan turns 45 on Sunday, March 14. Though he’s never known to throw lavish parties, this year there won’t be even a low-key private celebration. Why?

“I will not be celebrating my birthday this year,” Aamir told a news agency without specifying the reason. But it’s clear that the actor is still bereaving the death of his father Tahir Hussain last month.

Rather, on Sunday Aamir will be in Delhi to attend a conclave where he’ll be talking about the future of cinema on the same platform with Hollywood director James Cameron, the maker of the mega-blockbuster Avatar.

“Yes, I am going to be in Delhi for (a) conclave where I would be meeting Cameron,” Aamir succinctly revealed.

Throughout 2010, Aamir is going to be busy with his three in-house productions - Peepli Live, Dhobi Ghaat and Delhi Belly. Of the three, he stars in only ‘Dhobi Ghaat’.

Speaking about his criterion of choosing films, Aamir said: “I am attracted to scripts that move me emotionally and when you have such stories to tell, it doesn’t matter how unusual it is, people connect to it... I’ve no idea what audiences want. I only have an idea about what I want.”

Anyway, we wish a happy birthday to Aamir.

3 Idiots is set to spread smiles across Australia

3-idiot

`3 Idiots`, one of the biggest Bollywood grossers of all time, is set to spread smiles across Australia when it is screened as part of a film festival aimed at bridging the cultural gap between people of two countries amid a slew of attacks on Indians here.

For the next two months, people in Australia will be treated to a number of Indians films, local media reported.

`3 Idiots` starring Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan will be screened tomorrow by its Director Rajkumar Hirani, who is in the country to promote the Indian film festival along with actress Rani Mukherjee.

"Those incidents (of attacks on Indians) are sad, but one wouldn`t like to say that every person, every Australian walking along the street is against Indians, I would never like to say that," Hirani said.

Mukherjee, often referred to as the Queen of Bollywood, said that their visit is for a bigger cause.

"We are here to promote our movies culturally. We are here for the large number of Australians who love our cinema.

We are for the Indians and the Asian communities who watch our movies, so we are here for a greater cause. Just a few people believe in hatred," she said.

Mukherjee said that Bollywood films resonated with audiences around the world because they were "all about heart".

Director of the Film Festival Mitu Lange hopes the event will be a cultural bridge between the Australian and Indian communities.

The organisers hope to draw a large number of Indian students to the festival under which films will be screened in cities like Sydney, Perth and Auckland in New Zealand.

"We have made a conscious attempt to be like a cultural bridge between the two countries," Lange said, adding two free film screenings at Melbourne`s Federation Square on Thursday and Saturday were aimed at the city`s international students.

"We are doing this so that all our Indian students, not only our Indian students but international students, can bring their friends, bring their beanbags and just make a night of it and watch these great films under the star," Lange said.

Aamir Khan and Javed Akhtar joined hands for a bigger common cause

ashutos

Aamir Khan and Javed Akhtar may have been sparring over the copyright issue but they have joined hands for a bigger common cause, promoting the upcoming Commonwealth Games through an audio-visual campaign.

The audio-visual campaign, for which the CWG Organising Committee has tied up with Network 18, will be launched tomorrow and it will have a host of personalities from a variety of fields.

Pledging support for the Games, Khan said, "the CWG is around the corner and we as Indians should do everything possible to make our guests, coming from all over the world, feel welcome and comfortable."

"I wish all Indian sportspersons very best," the actor said. Akhtar said he wished the country "all the very best" as it is hosting the Games for the first time.

The promotional campaign is aimed at building a crescendo for the mega-sporting event and sensitise people about doing their best in making the Games a comfortable one for those coming from abroad. The organisers are tight- lipped about the other celebrities participating in the event.

Actor Aamir Khan got into a verbal spat with Javed Akhtar

on_the_

Having closely bonded with Javed Akhtar earlier, it was rather suprising when Aamir Khan got into a verbal spat with him.

At a meeting to sort out the deadlock between producers and lyricist writers, Khan sided with the producers undermining the importance of writers.

A close insider states, "Aamir’s contention was that a song becomes a hit only when it is picturised on a big star. To which Akhtar asked him , ’Your first song was ’papa kehte hain’. Did you make the song or did the song make you?’ And the war of words continued, with each of them getting hot under the collar as the argument escalated."

The news spread like the proverbial wildfire. Akhtar cautiously sidestepping the prickly issue groaned to the scribe tribe stating, "We writers are almost like bonded labourers and there is no room for us to profit in any way. We should be paid certain royalties, which our film industry does not pay."

Guess, Akhtar ’Khan’ do it….

Superstar Dilip Kumar watch the special screening of ‘3 Idiots’

1241430

Not many filmmakers are lucky when it comes to meeting the living legend of Bollywood, yesteryears superstar Dilip Kumar and his begum Saira Banu!

Recently, Vidhu Vinod Chopra and Raj Kumar Hirani held a special screening of ‘3 Idiots’ for Dilip Kumar and Saira Banu.

News has it that Yusufsaab thoroughly enjoyed the film and was so happy that he immediately wanted to discuss the movie over a cup of piping hot tea. It is believed that a happy Dilip Kumar held hands with Vidhu Vinod Chopra and even sang old songs. However, once back in Vidhu’s office, Dilip found a hand painted vintage poster of ‘Mughal-e-Azam’, which he happily autographed. Talking to a news daily, an ecstatic Vidhu said, “He winked like a young boy and asked me, ‘Should I autograph for Madhubala as well’.” To which Vidhu replied, “No sir, your signature is good enough for me.”

Reminiscing his chance encounter with legendary Dilip Kumar, Vidhu told his wife Anupama, “As a young boy, back in my village in Kashmir, if anyone had said to me that one day I would hold hands with the legend of Indian Cinema, Dilip Kumar and sing songs, I would never have believed it. This is the most defining moment of my film life. I don’t think anything else can surpass it.”

Aamir Khan had not touched a droplet of alcohol after 3 Idiots

111-aam

When ’3 Idiots’ held a celebration for it’s stupendous success at a suburban Mumbai hotel, invitees noticed that he was indeed high on spirits… but Aamir Khan had not touched a droplet of alcohol! Earlier on, the bubbly was uncorked at nephew Imran Khan’s engagement party, but there too Aamir totally refrained from sipping any champagne.

As per reliable sources, Aamir Khan made a firm resolve on the first day of 2010. He vowed to stay off alcohol and cigarettes. This time, for life!!

But it’s not as if he won’t serve booze at his residence. Khan clarifies in a tabloid chat that he’s likely to offer beer to visitors, while he’ll settle for a healthy high of fresh lime juice.

Admits the frank actor, "I put on 10 kgs in the past few months. Besides, I tended to overdo the drinking bit and hated it when I felt unhealthy. So I decided to quit drinking booze for life. As for cigarettes, I was never a regular smoker, so I decided to give it up too."

Commenting on media speculation that his spouse Kiran Rao goaded him into making the decision, Khan asserts, "I just felt like doing it from within. There is no specific reason."

Healthy ’Idiot’, what say?

Aamir Khan to respond Chetan Bhagat's allegations about 3 Idiots

Aamir Khan has claimed that he will wait for the right time to respond to Chetan Bhagat’s allegations about 3 Idiots.

The actor, who apparently has some "interesting" evidence about the disgruntled author, said that he would not be commenting on how similar 3 Idiots is to Bhagat’s novel Five Point Someone at the moment because he is a very emotional person.

’’I am very keen to present my side of the story," Khan told.

"Why I said what, why I feel what I feel, and what is the difference between a book and a screenplay, what I feel about ethics of this issue, fair play, morality etc.

"I would also like to present some very interesting evidence."

He added: "However, I will not like to do this right now. The reason is, that first of all, I think that it is very important that we distance ourselves from this incident to be unemotional about it, me included.

"Then we will be able to examine the merits of the case in an unbiased and clinical manner. I am a very emotional person and find it very difficult to be clinical, so for me distance is most important.’’

Bhagat launched a media campaign after 3 Idiots was released, saying that he had not been given enough credit for his contribution to the film.

Vidhu Vinod Chopra took a day off to visit the Taj Mahal

11poste

The controversy over "Three Idiots" and Chetan Bhagat notwithstanding, filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra took a day off to visit the Taj Mahal here along with his family members including his US-based sister.

He spent Saturday evening at the 17th century monument and also watched the 80-minute show "Taj, the Mohabbat" at Kalakriti Auditorium. He was impressed by the film and said the story of Taj Mahal has been well told and that it was unique and simply superb.

The show is being directed by Satish Gupta, who studied with Chopra at the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) in Pune.

"Vidhu looked relaxed and cheerful and one did not find any hangover of the controversy relating to ’3 Idiots’ . He also expressed his desire to eventually settle down in a small city to be able to concentrate on things dear to his heart," Satish Gupta told.

Chopra, who left the city Sunday morning, was in the news for losing his cool at a press conference in the capital Friday and asking a reporter to shut up after being questioned whether his hit "3 Idiots" was lifted from author Chetan Bhagat’s book "Five Point Someone".

The producer lost his cool when he was asked whether 70 percent of the film, which has grossed over Rs.100 crore in the first four days, was taken from the book -- as claimed by Bhagat. Chopra got angry and demanded to know if the journalist had seen the movie and read the book.

He apologized next morning saying: "I really think I’m silly (but) I was provoked (to react that way). But I shouldn’t have done this. I saw myself on TV (later) and saw how I was shouting ’shut up! shut up!’ like an animal. I told myself - ’what nonsensical behaviour’."

Aamir Khan appealing to the public to stop defacing monuments

Aamir

Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan will once again reunite with Rang De Basanti director Rakyesh Omprakash Mehra to spread the message of Athithi Devo Bhava.

Four new commercials are being made for the Tourism Ministry, featuring the actor who once again is seen appealing to the public to stop defacing monuments and be cordial to tourists.

The aim of the commercials is to take further the ’Incredible India’ campaign and are part of the ’Atithi DevoBhava’ initiative aimed at enlightening the public about being tourist friendly.

"The newly made four ad films are different from Aamir’s early films made by the same director for the ministry. Aamir is donning the role of a sutradhar (narrator) in these films," said the official.

The tourism industry is passing through a critical phase with a decline in foreign tourist arrival this year dueto various reasons including economic slowdown, swine flu and travel advisories issued by many countries.

While a total of 45.41 lakh foreigners visited the country during January to November this year, the number was48.51 lakh in January-November 2008.

Incidentally, the much awaited Aamir Khan starrer feature film Three Idiots is also expected to release thismonth and the ministry is hoping to cash in on the hype surrounding the film.

Aamir Khan to handle the traffic in the chat rooms

06amir5

The perfectionist in Aamir Khan has yet again proved the credentials of his title. He doesn’t seem to be pleased with the current technology to handle the traffic in the chat rooms. So, he has decided to design a chat room his way. But what is the reason for this disappointment?

Aamir recently conducted a fans chat on the occasion of music launch of 3 Idiots on the Internet and during the chat he discovered something, which compounded the reason for his misery.

To which he exclaims, “The big challenge is to be able to take the volume of traffic. By the time we finished with the lobby and I tried to enter my chat room, I discovered to my horror that I couldn’t, too much of traffic, I was told. So the technical team had to quickly create a new chat room for me.”

However, Aamir soon comes with a solution and says, “One day I will be able to organize a chat the way I imagine.”

Aamir Khan has undergone various punishments during his education days

Aami

He might be a superstar today, but Bollywood actor Aamir Khan has no qualms in admitting that he has undergone various punishments during his education days - from getting caned to kneeling down for the whole day.

"When in school, kneeling down in front of the principal’s office was a regular feature. I have also been caned a couple of times. It is strange that when you get caned, you don’t realise the pain instantly, but after two seconds it shoots so badly... It’s awful," Aamir told reporters here.

"I used to be more interested in sports and hence used to always forget doing my homework. Also, poor marks used to create problems for me. I used to get scolded very often," he added.

The 44-year-old actor also revealed that he only studied till Class 12 and never had a very good college life.

"My education has only been till 12th standard because after that I got into films. Even while in college for my 11th and 12th, I used to hardly attend classes because I was always busy with dramatics.

"Because of this, I didn’t have a very rocking college life. But during the shoot of ’3 idiots’ I lived the moments of a student’s life and enjoyed the way students do," said Aamir, who used to study in Narsee Monjee College in Mumbai.

Aamir along with actors R. Madhavan and Sharman Joshi was in the Capital Wednesday to promote his upcoming film "3 Idiots". Directed by Rajkumar Hirani and produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra, the film is slated to hit screens Dec 25.

Talking about the film that is based on author Chetan Bhagat’s bestselling novel "Five Point Someone", Aamir said it’s not only for engineering students but for every student and parent in the world.

"The film is not meant only for engineering students. It applies to all students and parents, who want to see their kids successful. It questions what success is. It questions what a child really wants to do. It raises various issues important to this generation.

"However, it’s told in a humorous way because that’s how Rajkumar Hirani makes his films," said the actor.

Asked when he would again wield the megaphone, Aamir told IANS: "I don’t know at the moment what I will make and when will that be. Let’s see."

A new reality show based on past life of Bollywood celebrities

gfx_193

Did Shah Rukh Khan stammer in his last life? Or was Salman Khan as macho in his previous birth? Viewers are wondering if a new reality show based on past life regression therapy will answer questions about their favourite stars even as it as created quite a buzz.“Raaz - Pichhle Janam Ka” will go on air Dec 7 and TV watchers are hoping it will rope in some high-profile celebrities.

According to channel officials, they have received over 8,000 calls from across the country to participate. Calls ranged from someone who had recurring dreams of dying in a plane crash to those who were scared of crows, water, fire and heights.Sonia Maheshwari, 22, says: “I want to know if this is all for real or made up. I think it will be great fun if they bring in celebrities like Saif Ali Khan, Shah Rukh, Salman, Rekha and Rahul Dravid.”

Ditto for public relations executive Saurav Bhanot. “It will be loads of fun to compare someone’s present and past…and more fun if the person is a celebrity.“Imagine knowing about Shah Rukh’s past life…What was he? Was he this successful then as well? What exactly did he do in terms of work? His personal life and if there were any scandals in his past life…that would be so very interesting,” he said.

Past life regression is a holistic form of therapy used by clinical psychologists to recover the memories of people and help them evade their present fears. The same will be shown on the NDTV Imagine reality show.Mumbai-based practitioner Trupti Jayin will be the therapist on the show. She will use a meditative technique to take people back in time to rid them of their present-day fears, phobias and physical ailments by finding their roots in their previous lives.

The show will have celebrities like Shekhar Suman and Neil Nitin Mukesh as well as unknown faces with unique stories. There are people who are looking forward to it.Natasha Harjai, a 24-year-old lawyer, has been an avid fan of Brian Weiss’ books on past life regression. She says the therapy is “magical” and it will make a good watch for people of all age groups.

“I think this show will help in clearing a lot of doubts about reincarnation and in affirming the beliefs of people who already believe in it,” Harjai, a practising lawyer, told IANS.“I know that there are a lot of people of all age groups who believe in this concept and will enjoy watching the show,” she added.

The majority of people calling in for the show wish to know about their existence in the past, said Jayin, who has been doing it for a decade now.“We get around 500 call-ins every day and I monitor quite a few of them. Most people want to come on the show just because they want to know what they were in their past lives, how they died, etc. They come for the sake of their curiosity,” Jayin told IANS over phone from Mumbai.

However, popular psychiatrist Samir Parikh feels it is “sad” that what is usually done on condition of confidentiality is now being brought to a national platform like television.“I think reality television is losing track. It needs limits of normality,” opined Parikh, consultant psychiatrist at Max Healthcare.
