James Cameron magnum opus Avatar has failed to impress the Vatican

james-c

James Cameron magnum opus Avatar might be raking in huge box office collections all over the world, but it has failed to impress the Vatican at all. The Vatican newspaper says that the movie is simplistic in its plot and is superficial in its eco-message, despite groundbreaking visual effects. Plus the Vatican is also not amused by the substitution of nature as a worship entity instead of religion.

“So much stupefying, enchanting technology, but few genuine emotions,” said Vatican newspaper L’Osservatore Romano, which devoted three articles to “Avatar ” in its Sunday editions. Vatican Radio called it “rather harmless” but added: “We doubt that this is an heir to those sci-fi masterpieces that - for reasons other than special effects - have marked cinema history.”

“Pandora is the planet that cleverly winks at all those pseudo-doctrines that turn ecology into the religion of the millennium,” Vatican Radio said. “Nature is no longer a creation to defend, but a divinity to worship.” They are certainly not happy with Cameron’s bland approach. “He tells the story without going deep into it, and ends up falling into sappiness,” it said.

Besides this the magnum opus and the blockbuster hit Avatar is under attack for sending out a racist message. In the movie Avatar, the white skinned American hero gets into an Avatar, a blue-skinned Alien body, and rescues the blue-skinned Alien occupants of Pandora. So according to the critics, the movie gives out the message that the Whites are superior to all as they rescued the natives of Pandora.

‘We are going to try and get Tiger Woods for the second one… and help him regain his image.

‘Mike (Tyson) loved doing ‘The Hangover’ because he loved ******* with the image people had of him. He knew we were not making fun of him but of the image people projected on him,’ said Phillips.

Ram Gopal Verma watched James Cameron's magnum opus Avatar

ram-gop

When the country’s foremost filmmaker is bamboozled by something, we sit and take notice. This has happened with Ram Gopal Verma, when he watched James Cameron’s magnum opus Avatar at Hyderabad’s Prasad’s IMAX. Never someone who believes in a God, he has terrified each one of us by calling James one, for creating "a far more beautiful, far more fantastic and far more exotic world than what even God can ever hope to create" in Avatar. He is referring to the Planet Pandora.

Also, RGV confesses, James made him and filmmakers of his ilk, feel like ants in the world. Breaking the propaganda that the film lacks emotional quotient as Titanic’s, RGV said that, "that could be because the visuals and the atmosphere of the film are so breathtaking that it takes you that much more time and effort to connect to its emotional aspect and its story when compared to a normal film with normal people."

Finally, he asks us to experience it, not just watch.

Twilight Saga: New Moon registered highest UK box office openings

twiligh

Vampire film `The Twilight Saga: New Moon` registered one of the year`s highest UK box office openings, making 11.68 million pounds ($19.3 million) in weekend sales, according to Screen International on Tuesday.

That is nearly double the autumn`s two other blockbusters, "2012" and "Up" but still short of the 2009 record opening of 19.8 million pounds set in July by "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince."

Based on the second of Stephenie Meyer`s four Twilight books, New Moon, with Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner, blew disaster movie 2012 off the top spot and down into second place.

Walt Disney`s high-tech adaptation of Charles Dickens` "A Christmas Carol," was also down one place, at three.

"Harry Brown" slipped a spot to four with Michael Caine as a retired soldier out for justice after the murder of his best friend.

"Up" was down at five from four while the stop-motion animated version of Roald Dahl`s "Fantastic Mr Fox" stayed at six.

"The Men Who Stare at Goats," a military farce with George Clooney and Jeff Bridges, was down two at seven, just above newcomer "A Serious Man" by Joel and Ethan Coen, a black comedy set on campus in 1967, which made its debut at eight.

Alien abduction thriller "The Fourth Kind" was down one at nine while Matt Damon came in at 10 as "The Informant!"

Twilight series has drawn criticism from the Vatican

-new-mo

The Roman Catholic Church has expressed concerns over the growing popularity of the “Twilight” series, as Vatican officials have called the vampire franchise a “moral vacuum with a deviant message”.The worldwide hype of the series has drawn criticism from the Vatican, with officials urging parents to be more vigilant about the type of films their children are watching, reports.

“The theme of vampires in ‘Twilight’ combines a mixture of excesses that as ever is aimed at young people and gives a heavy esoteric element. It is once again that age-old trick or ideal formula of using extremes to make an impact at the box office. This film is nothing more than a moral vacuum with a deviant message and as such should be of concern,” said Monsignor Franco Perazzolo of the Pontifical Council of Culture.

The second film in the vampire series, “The Twilight Saga: New Moon ”, hit cinemas Friday worldwide.

Vatican officials previously criticised the Harry Potter film franchise for its themes of magic and wizardry, as well as Dan Brown’s “The Da Vinci Code” and “Angels and Demons” for their depiction of the Catholic Church.

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger quit as a politician next year

Hollywood star-turned-California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has announced he’ll quit as a politician next year. The former action man’s second and final term as Governor of California comes to an end at the end of 2010 and he insists he won’t be seeking any other political gig after he steps down, reports.

The Austrian-bon Republican recently hinted at another possible political run when he challenged America’s rules on the nationality of those who seek election as President, but Schwarzenegger insists he won’t be seeking that role any further or any other once he leaves office in Sacramento, California.

“I have never labelled myself as a politician, so I am not going to run for anything else,” he said.

Since taking office in 2003, Schwarzenegger suspended his movie career, appearing only in cameo roles in “The Rundown”, “Around the World in 80 Days” and “The Kid & I”.

He’s now attached to star in next year’s “The Expendables”, which has been directed by Sylvester Stallone and also stars Stallone, Jason Statham, Bruce Willis and Terry Crews.
