Vivek Oberoi to do a reality check on the audience reaction to his Prince

Vivek-O

Actor Vivek Oberoi visited a cineplex here Friday night to do a reality check on the audience reaction to his "Prince: It`s Showtime" and says he was thrilled by the grand opening of the film despite an Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket match on at the time.

"To be honest, I didn`t expect such a public response. I thought it`s a nice film and people will enjoy it. I even thought that IPL is on so it would be a bit difficult, and especially there was a match of Mumbai Indians and Kings XI Punjab. When distributors and exhibitors called me and said that the halls are houseful, I thought I should personally visit and check it," he told reporters.

Vivek said he sneaked into a hall of the Gaitey Galaxy in Bandra 10 minutes to the film`s intermission.

People watching the film were unaware of his presence until media camerapersons came inside the hall and distracted the audience. His fans started howling and whistling and took him on their shoulders, cheering his performance in the film.

"I didn`t expect it to be this crazy and I am really sorry for the media people who kind of got pushed around. But I really enjoyed it. Especially, when people started whistling...," he told reporters.

Vivek went inside the hall unguarded, without any bouncer or police protection. But before the situation could go beyond control, he escaped from the hall through an emergency exit.

The actor also said he was inundated by messages on social networking site Twitter.

"I am in Twitter and you get instant feedback there. Some of them are so cute -- while watching the film they kept on twitting me... right now you did this... now you did that... it`s mind blowing. It really feels nice when you get so much love," he said.

Vivek, who has done mostly multi-starrer films, said it was producer Kumar Taurani`s confidence that helped him do the film as a solo lead.

"Honestly speaking I wasn`t very sure that I would be able to carry this film. No other known names... till now I have done mostly multi-starrer films so that the films get safe opening. But it was him (Taurani) who saw his prince in me and asked me to give my 100 percent. This is the biggest opening of my career by far," he said.

"Prince..." narrates the story of a thief who wakes up one morning to realise that he has lost his memory and his life is at stake. The film also features Nandana Sen, Aruna Shields and Neeru Singh.

Vivek, who runs a school in Vrindavan for underprivileged girls who have been abandoned by their families, said he was planning to make a special screening of "Prince..." for them.

"I want to do a special screening for the children in Project Devi in Vrindavan. There are 1,200 children there but in Vrindavan there is no 1,200 seat theatre, so I will have to divide them into two shows. My 1,200 small angels are very excited to see the film with me," he said.

Asked if he believes that the blessings of these children have brought him success, he said: "Most definitely. If you do some good work, being true to your heart, the blessings you get for it are incomparable. More important than anything else, that takes you to another level, at least spiritually you are very happy by that."

Vivek Oberoi is all set to make a grand comeback in film ‘Prince’

vivek

Adrenaline pumping action, cutting edge technology and with three actresses wooing him, Bollywood actor Vivek Oberoi is all set to make a grand comeback as the solo lead in action film ‘Prince’ releasing Friday.

Made at a budget of over Rs.40 crore (Rs.400 million) by producer Kumar Taurani, the two-hour-six-minute venture boasts of action sequences exceeding an hour. It is releasing with over 1,000 prints worldwide.

Directed by debutant Kooki V. Gulati, ‘Prince’ stars Nandana Sen, Aruna Shields and Neeru Singh as the female lead. Sanjay Kapoor and Dalip Tahil also star in the movie.

"`Prince...` is my first action film and will showcase me in a new avatar. It`s a story that could be every man`s fantasy and every man`s nightmare," Vivek had told IANS.

Shot across South Africa, Thailand and India, "Prince" narrates the story of a quick-witted thief who wakes up one morning to realise that he has a gunshot on his arm and has absolutely no clue about how he got it because he has lost his memory and that his life is at stake.

In his quest to find answers he discovers his name is Prince, he used to work for a man named Sarang and that his girlfriend`s name is Maya.

He is being hunted by the secret service of India I Grip, the CBI and the biggest white collared criminals in the world.

He realises that he is the most wanted man in the country because only he knows the whereabouts of a heist, which contains a secret that is linked not only to his memory loss but something that also threatens the future of the human race.

Prince tries relying on his razor sharp instincts to salvage himself, as the web of deception spins and he gets more entangled, as everyday he meets a new girl who claims to be Maya, he doesn`t know which side of the law he is on and above all he has only six days to live.

Vivek lost 12 kilos for the film and had to undergo about five months of rigorous physical training that included skate-boarding, stunt biking, cable training, martial arts, kicks and punches practice.

The 33-year-old has also jumped from a 32-storied building to a 28-storied one in the film and that too on a bike.

Earlier, titled ‘Prince of thieves’ and ‘Prince - It`s showtime’, the film has also been in the news for intimate scenes filmed on Vivek with his actresses. Noteworthy is that ‘Prince’ is also releasing simultaneously in Tamil and Telugu, apart from Hindi.

Despite that April is low on Bollywood big releases thanks to the ongoing Indian Premiere League (IPL), producer Taurani is undeterred.

"According to my report, the Indian Premier League (IPL) has not had the same craze this year as it had enjoyed in the last two seasons," Taurani had told reporters.

"Our film is coming in the middle of the series... The IPL craze is at its peak in the first two weeks and during finals so there will be a dull period in between when we will release our film... We are going big time," he added.

Also releasing Friday are romantic comedy ‘Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai’ and Rahul Bose starrer ‘The Japanese Wife’.

Vivek Oberoi getting a raw deal Saif Ali

saifaliIs Vivek Oberoi getting a raw deal? The Kurbaan promos feature Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor all the way. Vivek Oberoi who plays the third main protagonist is hardly glimpsed in the entire promotional campaign, triggering off a widespread feeling that things are not so right between Vivek and the Kurbaan team.

However the explanation for Vivek’s absence is far more bizarre than the normal raw-deal rona-dona.

Apparently his role is so deeply affiliated to the plot’s suspense that every moment shown in the promos featuring Oberoi would have the tendency to give away the story.

Laughs director Rensil d’Silva, “It’s a very strange situation. Vivek is one of the central characters. But almost every scene of his is a dead giveaway of the suspense. What do we do?”

Rensil has discussed the problem with Vivek. “And he is absolutely cool with being the band mutthi of the film. I’ve spoken to Vivek and explained the dilemma. He was cool with not being featured in the promos that much. He said to do whatever is right for the film because when the film opens the truth about the extent of his role would be out. Vivek has worked very hard in the film. He had to acquire a true New Yorker’s accent and not the kind Indians get at the John F Kennedy airport.”

Vivek worked really hard on the accent. “We had a couple of New Yorkers on the sets to coach him. He’s got the NY accent bang-on. It’s not a borough-specific accent (NY has 5 boroughs each with its own speaking patter). It’s a general New York twang. And Vivek is superb with it.”

Rensil cuts down the belief that Vivek has a cameo in Kurbaan? “Not true at all. Vivek is in 80 percent of the film. He’s central to the drama. Vivek worked very hard on the role. He was in my room in Philadelphia every night to discuss his diction, dialogues and looks. I seem his career at the cusp of something really exciting.”

Vivek Oberoi is maintaining a dignified silence on his shocking absence

vivek_o

While everyone is talking about the scorching hot chemistry between Kareena and Saif in ’Kurbaan’, Vivek Oberoi seems to have learnt a lesson or two from his previous media tirades and this time around he is maintaining a dignified silence on his shocking absence from all of the film’s publicity material.

Those who know the story of the film maintain that Vivek is an extremely integral part of the film and that he has several key scenes with both Saif as well as even with Kareena . A source who has seen the film, says that Vivek has given such a strong performance in the film that he just wants to sit back and let critics and audiences react.

Although he is a bit hurt by being side lined in all of the promotion, apparently Vivek feels this time around he should let his work speak for him and that he may just end up being the surprise packet in the film, stunning all with his performance. Looks like age, and some very hard times have really matured Vivek from his press conference days.
