Shah Rukh Khan's online tickets sold out in five seconds in Berlin

mynamei

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s presence at the Berlin International Film Festival acknowledges that he has fans not only in Mumbai, but all over the world. The online tickets for his My Name is Khan, which is being targeted by the Hindu right wing Shiv Sena in Mumbai, were sold out in five seconds here.

People who phoned the Berlinale authorities five minutes after ticketing opened were told they were way too late.

The film’s tickets were auctioned on e-Bay for 1,000 euros (about Rs 60,000) each.

Fans had not slept all night to keep their places in the queue despite the minus temperature in Berlin. Those who arrived at 6 a.m. were in tears.

Jenny Watkinson, assigned the ’Shah Rukh Khan department’ in the International Relations office of Dieter Kosslick, Berlin film festival director, says, "I’ve never seen anything like it. This year it’s expected to be even bigger than in 2008 [during Om Shanti Om]. The online tickets for My Name is Khan were sold out in five seconds."

The film premieres in Berlin on Friday with a red carpet at the prestigious Berlinale Palast theatre on Potsdamer Platz.

Everyone was wondering if Shah Rukh Khan and team would be in Berlin, given that the Shiv Sena vandalised Mumbai theatres where advance bookings of the film opened because Shah Rukh said that Pakistani players should also participate in the Indian Premier League.

The film’s screening has police protection in both Mumbai and Berlin.

In Mumbai to protect Shah Rukh’s fans from the vandals, in Berlin to protect the star from a tsunami of hysterical fans who are expected from all over Europe.

Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol and Karan Johar are here for the premiere of My Name is Khan.

India has much reason to celebrate at the Berlin International Film Festival here as the country has a historic nine feature films in the Berlinale.

This is the 60th anniversary of the Berlin Film Festival, that opens Thursday and runs from February 11-21.

Shah Rukh Khan get help from Vishwa Hindu Parishad

don_gal

The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) Monday appeared to back the Shiv Sena by calling for a nationwide boycott of Shah Rukh Khan`s "My Name is Khan" but took objection to the Sena`s Mumbai-for-Marathis stand and said every inch of India belonged to all Indians.

"People of India must boycott `My Name is Khan` as Shah Rukh Khan is a traitor," VHP general secretary Pravin Togadia told journalists here.

"My Name is Khan", starring Shah Rukh and Kajol, is set to be released Friday.

But the star is mired in a blazing row over his recent comments advocating the cause of Pakistani cricket players who were not picked by any team for IPL .

Togadia threatened that posters of the film would be torn down.

Interestingly, the radical VHP leader locked horns with the Shiv Sena that had also objected to Shah Rukh`s comments by saying Mumbai could not be only for Marathis.

"The VHP`s stand is very clear and we differ on the Shiv Sena`s position. According to us, every inch of India belongs to all Indians and every Indian has the right to stay with dignity in any part of the country... Mumbai, Delhi, and even Kashmir is for all Indians," the VHP leader said.

"If we try to stay that Mumbai is for Marathis and outsiders have to leave Mumbai, then I would say India would not survive."

Shah Rukh Khan is dying to see compatriot Anil Kapoor`s performance in 24

AnilKap

The ‘King of Bollywood’ is dying to see compatriot Anil Kapoor`s performance in ‘24’, but is not quite ready to make the jump to Hollywood saying he is quite happy doing the films he does.

"I`ve never been offered anything," said Shah Rukh disarmingly in an interview with reporters over the phone from New York on a trip to promote his new film "My Name Is Khan" set for release in the US Feb 12.

"You need to work much harder and prove your mettle a longer time maybe to come in to a different world with a different language like Anil has done," he said. "I don`t know if I`ve got what it takes. I`ve never been offered something...I won`t lie. I`m quite happy doing the films I do."

Shah Rukh has not seen Anil`s performance in the action television series broadcast by Fox. But "I`m dying to see it. A friend of mine saw it and he said it`s awesome. Anil Kapoor is awesome. Maybe I`ll wait for the DVD or for it to come out on iTunes and hope I`m able to see the new season."

"He`s one of the finest, most conscientious, hard-working actors and one of the few people who I met initially in my career and was very helpful," he said. "He always has a positive thing to say, one of the most positive actors I`ve met...really nice."

On his plans for the future, Shah Rukh said, "in terms of films, I haven`t worked for a year because of my injury. I think by end of February, I should be nearly fit. I guess by March I would like to start a film, which is titled `Ra One`.

"I`ll hopefully finish that by August. It`s a difficult film. It`s a kind of superhero film, never tried in India before. Then I think I`ll shift on to `Don 2`, which starts sometime in September, I think."

But does he have a dream film or role in mind. "I just make dreams always," said Shah Rukh. "I think my work is just making dreams and one of the aspects of my work is that whatever story appeals to me at a given point in time, which changes, obviously, depending on what stage and thought process I`m in."

"Sometimes I want to do a film for kids, sometimes I want to do a film for adults, sometimes I want to do a film which is just fun and easy on the head, like `Om Shanti Om`."

"So depending on the state of mind, I hear a story a couple of times and say, `OK, this is the one I`m going to indulge in and hopefully, you know, entertain people.`"

"It`s never been deeper than that," Shah Rukh said. "Dream projects, no...every film that I do is a dream project, I`m assuming. It is the most important film. I take it always as the first film I`m doing and maybe the last one. So it becomes very important that I fulfil that film to its limit."

"Beyond that, no, I don`t have any...I mean, I read a lot, thoughts come, but finally a film has to be created by the director and the writer. I am neither of the two...so I have to wait for something which kind of feels like, OK, this is the state of mind I`m in and I just do it.

"At this point, no, nothing, "Ra. One" is prime on the head right now."

Shah Rukh Khan has earned the communal ire of the Shiv Sena

sharukh

89 crores are quivering and Karan Johar’s shivering in the stormy political scenario. SRK, head honcho of Kolkata Night Riders, will suffer sleepless nights too.

Shah Rukh Khan has earned the communal ire of the Shiv Sena, no less, for his insistent suggestion to include cricketers from Pakistan in the IPL.

A group of Shiv Sainiks strode into the Eternity Mall at Thane, Mumbai, to meet SRK, demanding that Khan apologise to the nation and to Sena chief Bal Thackeray for his incendiary remarks on the boycott of Pakistani players from the IPL 3 .

The Thane unit of the Shiv Sena, meanwhile, has threatened to ban all SRK movies in the metropolis, if Khan refutes their demand. Perhaps, K Jo can now rename his flick: ’My Name is... Troubled Khan!’

Shah Rukh Khan would soon be asking love question across the country

in-a-ch

How far would you go for love? If you haven’t given it a thought so far then have your answer ready because Shah Rukh Khan would soon be asking this question across the country. The superstar’s love query to Indians is part of a special promotional campaign for "My Name Is Khan", says filmmaker Karan Johar.

"Yes, there is this huge campaign that has been designed around the strong essence of love that ’My Name Is Khan’ carries. As a part of this, Shah Rukh would be travelling across the country and pop this question to the ’aam janta’. This would be his way of connecting with people who are waiting to catch him in ’My Name Is Khan’," Karan, who has produced and directed the film, told IANS.

Establishing a connection with the people is fast turning out to be a trend amongst the Bollywood biggies. Way back in 2006, Shah Rukh himself did so to promote "Don - The Chase Begins Again". In recent times, while Aamir Khan has pulled out all stops to mingle with people across the country for his "Ghajini" and "3 Idiots", even a normally reluctant Salman Khan was seen stepping out for "Veer".

Abhishek Bachchan too went out for multiple city tours when it came to promoting "Delhi 6".

As the much-hyped "My Name Is Khan", which releases Feb 12, brings Shah Rukh and Kajol together on screen after eight long years, one can expect some fireworks during its promotions as well.

"This is going to be a pan-India initiative and won’t be restricted to metros or cosmopolitan cities. In addition, there would be a lot of other things happening to facilitate the film’s promotion," Karan said.

"...The idea of asking people ’How far would you go for love?’ should be quite enticing for many out there. It should be a good participative exercise," the filmmaker added.

"My Name Is Khan", which is being marketed and distributed by Fox Searchlight Pictures, is about Rizwan Khan (Shah Rukh), an autist, who is mistaken for a terrorist while travelling in the US. Karan, Shah Rukh and Kajol have teamed up so far for candy-floss movies...so how come they decided to opt for different kind of cinema?

"I just felt that cinema is maturing with every passing year and I should move on with the times as well," Karan said with a smile.

"If I am constantly going to try and woo the audience with a certain kind of cinema without doing something that is entirely different, what’s the point in sitting pretty in the position where I currently am? Why not use it for my own advantage and make something really fresh...I truly believe that if you are motivated just for the sake of it, you would get caught eventually. You can succeed only if you have a very strong conviction backing up your thought."

Shah Rukh Khan unexpectedly meeting with his Fan

shahruk

Imagine unexpectedly meeting a hardcore admirer, who proposes you to marry there and then! Well, this is exactly what happened to our B-town’s Baadshah recently, when he was in Ahmedabad, while promoting his film ‘My Name Is Khan’.

Shah Rukh Khan was at a promotional event in a five-star hotel, when the incident took place. A 20-yr old Tillana Desai, dressed as a bride, turned up from the crowd and insisted SRK to get married. And our King Of Hearts, in true hero style, accepted it right away!

The girl said to have even brought a ring with her. What later followed was quite a filmy scene, they say….SRK then went down on his knees and slipped the ring on her finger, saying that this is their rehearsal for the wedding.

Oooo…. One can just imagine how ecstatic the gal would have been! Sources quoted her saying, “I will never remove the ring and I am glad that he accepted my love and admiration for him.”

Indeed our King Khan knows how to impress his female fans……

Shahrukh Khan took off his shirt and flashed his abs to the cameras

shahruk

The special episode of ‘Music Ka Mahamuqabla’ on Star Plus witnessed ample skin-show courtesy Shahrukh Khan who took off his shirt and flaunted his bare chest to the cameras and the ecstatically screaming fans among the audiences.

The superstar along with director Karan Johar was promoting their upcoming film My Name Is Khan on the music reality show in which all the contestants paid tribute to SRK by singing songs from his films only.

What we learn from the goss that has trickled out from the sets is that when the song ‘Deewangi Deewangi’ from SRK’s hit film Om Shanti Om played, the superstar got up on a table and danced and, further rooted by the audience, took off his shirt and flashed his abs.

That doubtlessly was the high-point of the show which will be telecast on the coming Saturday.

Well, a few weeks back SRK had joked that he wants to be a pornstar. Now, he takes off his shirt on national television.

What next, SRK!

Shah Rukh Khan need for a good team spirit in IPL

Kolkata

Diagnosing lack of cohesion as the cause for the poor show of the team in the first two editions of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) co-owner and Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan Monday hoped the side will be able to reverse its fortunes this time with a fresh approach.

“This year we have a fresh approach to everything. Fresh coach, support staff, (Wasim) Akram is here,” Shah Rukh told mediapersons during the ongoing KKR camp.

After getting the wooden spoon in the second edition of the IPL, the KKR has appointed Ganguly as skipper with Dav Whatmore taking over as the new coach. Akram is the bowling consultant.

Describing the team as a combination of old guard and youngsters, Shah Rukh stressed the need for a good team spirit. “The important thing here is team spirit, which should be maintained throughout the season”.

On the reasons for the team’s failures in the IPL so far, he said: “Somewhere down the line I think we were not able to perform as a cohesive unit. The onus on us this season is to imbibe the cohesiveness to perform on a better scale.”

Shah Rukh said he had dropped in at the camp to boost the squad. “I have come here not to speak about cricket. Many experts are here like Sourav, Akram, Dav who can train and advise the guys. My job is just to cheer up the entire squad.”

Shah Rukh said he hated losing. “Hopefully, by the end of this series the KKR will be a much better team.”

Asked to name the players his team was eyeing, Shah Rukh said: “We have already had discussions about it. By Jan 17 or 18 we will get a more or less clear picture about the availability of international players. We already do have some names in our mind.”

“It is up to Dav and Dada (Sourav Ganguly) to take the final call. And I certainly will give my inputs,” he said.

Movie Review: Dulha Mil Gaya

24slid1

Dulha Mil Gaya: Is a predictable bore

Rating: 1.5 out of 5*

Starring: Fardeen Khan, Sushmita Sen, Ishita Sharma, Mohit Chaddha, Tara Sharma and Shah Rukh Khan (Sp. App)

Director: Mudassar Aziz

Settled in Trinidad and Tobago, Tej Dhanraj aka Donsai (Fardeen) is a rich playboy who lives to party hard and have fun with the most attractive gals minus in commitment. His only good female friend is the hot shot super model Shimmer (Sushmita Sen ). Donsai hopes of leading a fun life ahead as well comes crashing down when his late father’s will is declared by his lawyer Mr. Vakil (Vivek Vaswani). A clause in the will makes it compulsory for Donsai to get married to his father’s friend’s daughter living in a Punjab village if he wants to inherit the huge riches of his father running into 5 Billion Dollars. A reluctant Donsai only agrees for the same when Vakil suggests him a loophole. So he marries the Punjab small town girl Samarpreet Singh (Ishita Sharma) in quick court marriage and comes back to Trinidad minus her. He stops any communication with her but dutifully keeps sending a fat cheque every month end to her family. Longing for him, the sweet and simple Samarpreet then decides to go to Trinidad herself. But on landing at his doorstep she is in for a cultural shock and is stunned to see Donsai having fun with other females. She is even insulted and thrown away from the house by his bodyguards even before they both meet. Following her accident she lands up in Shimmer’s house. The snooty, high society girl Shimmer at first detests her but after hearing her story she decides to help her. How Shimmer manages to help Samarpreet woo Donsai back by completely transforming her as a hottie Samara and how in the same course also learns a lesson or two about true love of her long time lover PRG (Shah Rukh Khan) forms the rest of the plot.

With a plotline that offers nothing new apart from a unique location setting in the West Indies isles, the predictability of Dulha Mil Gaya puts you off to sleep long before it is over. Shah Rukh Khan in a special appearance making a proper entry just post interval too cannot salvage the film. Just by taking off her glasses and appearing a bit mod, Samarpreet manages to hoodwink Donsai into believing she is someone else, just like Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi’s SRK’s Suri character! While the first half breezes past quickly, the problems begin when the 2nd half begins. After SRK’s entry your expectations rise but as soon come crashing down by some really juvenile sequences added. The whole cruise sequence is extremely tackily shot. The climax too is simply lame. Lalit Pandit’s music works well when watched on screen. The entire track of lovers played by Tara Sharma and her DJ boyfriend Mohit Chaddha is a waste of time.

Fardeen puts in the efforts and delivers an okay performance. Sushmita Sen never looked so hot before. Her comic timing is very good. Newcomer Ishita Sharma last seen in a small cameo in Dil, Dosti Etc. is extremely likeable. Be it emotional sequences or comic ones, she gives it her all and leaves you mighty impressed. Tara Sharma looks good but still hasn’t got rid of her pathetic dialogue delivery. Mohit Chaddha is passable. Vivek Vaswani is good but Johnny Lever is complete wasted in the role of Fardeen’s butler. Finally, SRK even his small party, gives a glimpse of his famous romantic lover charm. The superstar puts in his 100% in his half backed character.

Debutante director Mudassar Aziz’s Dulha Mil Gaya could have worked had it been released a decade back. But now it seems too outdated. It constantly keeps you giving a feeling of déjà vu with sequences appearing quiet similar to films like Ponga Pandit, Namastey London and even Dil Bole Hadippa!

Give it a miss guys unless you are a hardcore Shah Rukh Khan fan who doesn’t mind sitting through a 150 minute bore only to catch a few sequences he succeeds in holding your attention in an otherwise boring film.

Shah Rukh Khans Ra1 is touted as a big-budget superhero movie

Shahruk

My Name Is Khan’ is hogging the limelight currently, while another Shah Rukh Khan flick is counting days to get on with its shooting schedule.

Bannered under SRK’s Red Chillies Entertainment, ‘Ra1’ is touted as a big-budget superhero movie. Starring Shahrukh Khan and Kareena Kapoor in the lead, this sci-fi will be directed by Anubhav Sinha. Interestingly, this film will complete the Khan-triplet for our sizzling beauty. With Aamir’s ‘3 Idiots’ releasing shortly, Bebo has ’Agent Vinod’ with Saif besides ‘Ra1’.

It is heard that Shahrukh will rope in foreign designers to design his costumes and not his usual designer buddies like KJo and Manish Malhotra.

‘Ra1’ is said to go on floors in February 2010, once ‘My Name Is Khan’ settles down well after its release in the Valentine’s month. And if all goes well, then one can see this superhero flick before the end of 2010.

King Khan has decided to give a royal ignore to Farah’s personal invite

shahruk

They have been the most bonding couple of the film industry but now Shah Rukh Khan and Farah Khan have fallen apart. And it’s all owing to Farah’s efforts of making a Khan out of Akshay Kumar.

After Farah signed Akshay to star in her flick ‘Tees Maar Khan’, the director was left dumbfounded when Shah Rukh turned down her offer to grace her much anticipated lingerie show for a renowned brand.

And while King Khan has decided to give a royal ignore to Farah’s personal invite, her newfound best buddy Akshay has confirmed to make a smashing entry at the show. So what’s the cause of all this acrimony?

If sources are to be believed, then ever since Farah signed on Akshay for her home production, Shah Rukh has been breathing fire. And considering that SRK has always stood by his pals and accepted their film offers without much ado, he seems to have a valid reason to fume and fuss.

Shahrukh Khan almost unrecognizable in a latest ad for Dish TV

srk

His broad forehead, grey hair, salt-n-pepper moustache and the obvious slouch make Shahrukh Khan almost unrecognizable in a latest ad for Dish TV.

Dressed in an embroidered green kurta and carrying a cane, the 44-year-old superstar transforms into a 75-year-old grandpa romancing his sweetheart (Tanvi Azmi) behind closed doors in the ad conceptualized by adman and lyricist Prasoon Joshi and directed by Anurag Basu.

Considering the fact that SRK has never undergone such a makeover for the said brand’s ads in the past, some might argue that the superstar is going the Aamir Khan way who has donned many different looks from an aged Sikh to ventriloquist for a rival brand.

But Prasoon Joshi would dismiss it as a coincidence. The adman goes on to say that he wasn’t sure if SRK would agree to play an old man in the ad. So he and his team first created the photoshopped images of old SRK and showed them to the star. When SRK saw the pics, he was game for the ad.

Moreover, when wife Gauri Khan and kids (Aryan and Suhana) saw their dad made up as a 75-year-old dada ji, they too gave their thumbs-up.

“I love doing the role of an old man and that too in a very romantic manner,” Shah Rukh said about the ad.

Mediapersons were bitten by the Shah Rukh Khan bug

Kingsle

Don’t believe in rumours - it is wisely said. Hours before Sir Ben Kingsley was to arrive in Panaji for the 40th edition of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI), the venue was abuzz with rumours of Shah Rukh Khan dropping by at the IFFI venue at the same time.

By afternoon, even mediapersons were bitten by the SRK bug . Some insisted that the Bollywood superstar and Sir Kingsley would be addressing a joint press conference.

King Khan finally did not arrive for the IFFI. Turns out that the confusion had arisen after the organisers had flashed messages that SBK (initials of Sir Ben Kingsley) would be addressing the media on Monday afternoon.

And SBK had mutated into SRK (Shah Rukh Khan’s initials) in a matter of minutes, which had the rumour mills working furiously.

"We had heard that SRK was coming. There were messages floating around that Shah Rukh would either be addressing a press conference or he was around in town," Sean Faia, a public relations professional, told.

Sir Ben Kingsley subsequently addressed the media at 4 p.m., speaking about his forthcoming film ’Taj’ and fielding questions on his role as Mahatma Gandhi in Sir Richard Attenborough’s epic film "Gandhi".

akkiBollywood is always brimmed with clashes - clash of the Titans. Be it releases or picking an IPL team, everything doesn’t get over sans a big clash. And now, it’s over again to Akshay Kumar and Shah Rukh Khan set on the wars. But this time, it’s over in small screens.

The entire town is studded with the mania of Dance Premiere League (DPL) over television screens in the recent times. The latest buzz rounding up in air is that producers of this show have roped in B-Town celebrities Kareena Kapoor, Bipasha Basu, Salman Khan, Arshad Warsi and Sohail Khan as ’super selectors’ for various regions.

With merely one slot remaining, confusions strike Shah Rukh Khan and Akshay Kumar. Both the stars don’t want to miss this golden opportunity as it would offer them best space for promoting their films.
