Ranbir has the potential to be one:Siddharth Anand

Ranbir1

Now, this is something anyone would think twice before proclaiming. But director Siddharth Anand whose next film Anjaana Anjaani stars Ranbir Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra says Ranbir has all it takes to be the next Amitabh Bachchan of Bollywood.

“He (Ranbir) has got everything it takes to be the complete Hindi film hero that Bachchan was,” Anand is quoted as saying by a news agency.

According to Anand, Ranbir has to add an action film to his filmography to become an actor on his way to become the next Bachchan.

“The day Ranbir does an action film and does it well, he has the potential to fill the void that Bachchan created,” claimed Siddharth.

He has previously worked with Ranbir in the Yashraj production Bachna Ae Haseeno.

Siddharth added that Ranbir has the versatility like Big B showed in his heydays.

“Ranbir is the perfect guy to play Anthony, he can play coolie, he can play the characters Bachchan played in his prime. There is no one else but him,” Anand gushed.

We aren’t sure how many movie buffs will agree with him.

Ranbir Kapoor has decided to take notes from Lata Mangeshkar

ranbirk

To play a legend like Kishore Kumar requires tremendous research if you want to get it right. Ranbir Kapoor, who plays the legendary singer in his biopic, isn’t about to risk hitting a wrong note.

So he has decided to take notes from Lata Mangeshkar, who has sung innumerable duets with Kishoreda. Incidentally, Ranbir not only shares a passion for music and cinema with Lataji, the two also share the same birthday (September 28). And, of course, Lataji was very close to Ranbir’s grand-dad Raj Kapoor.

Ranbir Kapoor
A close friend of Ranbir says, "Ranbir is a big fan of Kishore Kumar (KK). His happiest moment as an actor was when he got to yodel like KK in Saawariya and when he danced to a remix of KK’s Bachna ae haseenon. This is Ranbir’s first biographical character. He doesn’t want to impersonate the legendary singer.

He wants to understand the inner life of Kishore Kumar. He’s reading up all the information on KK on the internet and intends to meet all the people who knew the singer well, including Lata Mangeshkar, who was a close friend and associate of KK."

Ranbir is currently recharging his batteries with a break of one-and-a-half months. Thereafter, it’s going to be a full two years of challenging films ahead for Ranbir, and that too in roles which require rigorous preparation. Even as he is getting a hang of the guitar strings for his role of the rock musician in Imtiaz Ali’s Rock Star he is polishing up on sign language for the role of the deaf-mute in Anurag Basu’s film. And of course, the young actor is also getting ready for the biggest challenge of his career so far.

Towards the year-end, he is taking three months off to prepare for his role after he completes his pending assignments. Ranbir has never been more excited about any role. Says the friend, "Ranbir is excited about getting it right. He has watched his dad Rishi Kapoor emote and dance to innumerable Kishore Kumar numbers. Ranbir’s favourite songs that his dad featured in are Oh hanseeni from Zehreela Insaan and Om shanti om from Karz."

Ranbir’s music-listening time is now monopolised by Kishore Kumar songs, and not just the ones the ebullient legend sang for Ranbir’s dad. "Ranbir’s iPod is filled with Kishore Kumar’s songs from the 1950s to the last songs Kishore sang before his premature death," adds Ranbir’s friend.

Commenting on his first biographical role, Ranbir says, "It’s too early to talk about that project. But yes, I’m going to work very hard to get it right."

Movie Review- Ranbir Kapoor's Rocket Singh Salesman of the Year

Rocket_

Star Cast: Ranbir Kapoor , Gauhar Khan, Prem Chopra, Shazahn Padamsee, Mukesh Bhatt, D. Santosh, Naveen Kaushik and Manish Choudhari

Music Director: Salim Merchant, Sulaiman Merchant

Story / Dialogue /Lyrics: Jaideep Sahni

Producer: Aditya Chopra

Director: Shimit Amin

Rating: ***1/2

They say, ‘Show class, have pride, and display character. If you do, winning takes care of itself.’ And whoever they are, they’re often right.

Like any other business, sales and service fundamentals are no rocket science. All it needs is honesty, dedication and integrity. But the blitzkrieg of cold calls and unsolicited offers on your phone everyday show that these virtues haves been mothballed for good. Poor Harpreet Singh Bedi (Ranbir Kapoor) who has ‘just’ passed his college hasn’t learnt these tricks of the trade yet.

His mark sheet is an embarrassment but that never stopped him from dreaming of an exciting and adventurous career in ‘AYS sales’. He is like an honest professional, who lived in every one of us before those unreasonable deadlines, targets and peer pressure got better of us. Soon, his idea of success begins to clash with the ‘professional’ ways of his colleagues, team leader and the boss.

But Harpreet who has inherited nothing but integrity and a modest scooter from his fuddy-duddy grandpa (Prem Chopra) refuses to give in to this chicanery. Instead he forms his very own, at your service 24x7 Rocket Sales Corp. that works from the AYS premises itself.

With his honesty pep talk he also poaches the ‘best’ AYS talent which includes, his sales shark team leader (Naveen Kaushik), perennial lech techie Giri (D. Santosh), hot customer relations manager Koena (Gauhar Khan) and an office boy Chhote Lal (Mukesh Bhatt) better known as ‘cup-plate’.

Together they restore the idea that business is not just about numbers but it’s about people and when people are happy numbers surge anyway.

As the orders start pouring in and sales sky-rocket, AYS begins to feel the heat. What follows is Harpreet’s conquest over the ideas which AYS boss (Manish Choudhari) considers mainstays of any sales business.

Rocket Singh works fantastically due to Jaideep Sahni’s crisp story and dialogues, Shimit Amin’s taut direction and Ranbir’s pristine performance as he plays the desi Jerry Maguire. As for women, it is Gauhar Khan and not Shazahn Padamsee who steals the limelight. Prem Chopra is delight to watch after a long, long time.

Salim-Sulaiman’s music & background score is easy on the ears and never hinders the pace of the story. All in all there is no stopping this Rocket Singh and if you like some uncluttered entertainment you know where to board this flight.

Ranbir Kapoor and Imran Khan were inundated with offers of starring together

photo

Looks like the success of Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani has changed Ranbir Kapoor’s perception of his career graph. The actor, who till now was open to the possibility of starring with buddy Imran Khan in a film, has now had a change of heart. Ranbir and Imran, who received a lot of accolades for hosting the Filmfare awards together earlier this year, were inundated with offers of starring together in films.

Ranbir, who is currently shooting with Priyanka Chopra in Bangkok for Anjana Anjani, his second film with Siddharth Anand after Bachna Ae Haseeno, says, “Imran and I did one gig together at the Filmfare awards but we haven’t worked together after that. We have been offered a whole lot of stuff but the offers never went beyond the preliminary stage. I don’t think Imran and I will be working together in any capacity in the near future. By God’s grace, I am in a position to do solo-hero films with terrific actresses and directors for the best banners. I am a selfish actor. I would rather have a film to myself than share it with another actor.”

Did something go wrong with their great friendship, one can’t help but wonder. The response is even more shocking as Ranbir admits that Imran and he are not exactly the thick friends they are made out to be. He says, “Imran and I are friends but not the best of friends. Where is the time for friendship? I don’t even have time for my parents. My only close friend in the film industry is Ayan Mukerji. I selfishly call my parents to my outdoor shootings to spend time with them. However, they avoid joining me on outdoors. They know what it’s like to be distracted. They have been there, done that. I’m doing what I love. So, no complaints.”

Rubbishing rumours of co-producing a film with Imran, Ranbir says. “People said I am co-producing a film with him. It will be really insulting if I don’t direct my first film for my home production (RK Films). I will feel really small and inadequate.

Imran Khan remained unavailable for comment.

Ranbir Kapoor’s first crush in life was second standard school teacher

anbir Kapoor may have parted ways with Deepika Padukone but earlier his name was linked with debut film Saawariya co-star Sonam Kapoor. But not many are aware that Ranbir’s first crush in life was his schoolteacher.

Ranbir smilingly states in this regards, “I have had many crushes in life and my first crush was my second standard school teacher. Maybe because she was the first woman in my life after my mother who pampered me and loved me just the way my mom did. I used to secretly adore her.”

However, now the actor confesses that his perspective towards looking at love has changed a lot. “Love is defined in my ways. I don’t know how you look at love. Love has different meanings for me, ” he says.

Well now high on the success of his last two films the actor is now looking forward to ‘Rajniti’ and ‘Anjaana Anjaani’. Yet the actor says that his first film Saawariya will always remain special for him.

“I did the film two years back. Though it was a disaster I learnt how to act and I learnt all about cinema through Sanjay Leela Bhansali. So like my first crush, my first film will also remain always special to me, ” Ranbir concludes.

Ranbir Kapoor is the new favourite at Yash Raj Films

Ranbir-Ranbir Kapoor is the new favourite at Yash Raj Films. After starring in YRF’s Bachna Ae Haseeno and the forthcoming Rocket Singh Salesman of the Year, Ranbir will now star in a film to be directed by Aditya Chopra. The film will go on the floors early next year. Ranbir was best choice for the forthcoming film as Aditya is ready with his new film’s script and his favourite actor and closest friend Shah Rukh Khan has no available dates for the next two years

Shah Rukh Khan had starred in all the three films directed by Aditya, Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge, Mohabbatein and Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi.

A source said, "Aditya was keen to direct Dhoom 3 however they didn’t finalise a script that Aditya was keen enough to direct. Even Yashji was scheduled to direct a film after Veer-Zaara but that too did not work out. When Aditya realised that Dhoom 3 is not working out as expected and Shah Rukh is already busy with Don 2 and Farah Khan’s film Happy New Year, he wrote this fresh young love story, which will star Ranbir."

"There has been a considerable gap between his three films. Aditya made Mohabbatein five years after Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge while Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi was made eight years after Mohabbatein. However, he was very sure that after Rab Ne... he wanted to start his next film soon."

Aditya consciously wrote a young love story for his forthcoming film, just like DDLJ. He was very clear that he wanted his next to be a bubbly love story. Ranbir fits the bill perfectly and the two are good friends. The rest of the details are yet to be finalised.

We sent text messages to Ranbir Kapoor and YRF but they did not reply.

Salesman of the Year will release on December 11 this year

Ranbir_After Bachna Ae Haseeno, Ranbir ’s second film with YRF, Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year will release on December 11 this year. It is a Shimit Amin film (he made Chak De India) and it is highly anticipated. Ranbir’s film with Aditya Chopra will be his third with the production house. Usually actors are on three-film contracts. This is the first time that Aditya Chopra will be directing a film without Shah Rukh Khan as DDLJ, Mohabbatein and Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi all starred SRK in diverse roles. SRK who has often said that he cannot say no to Adi has had to make an exception because he has no dates for the next two years when he will be shooting for Farhan Akhtar’s Don 2 and Farah Khan’s Happy New Year.

A source tells us that Aditya Chopra was keen on directing Dhoom 3 as Sanjay Gadhvi who directed the first two films in the franchise is no longer with YRF and also, the production house needed a big hit after most of its films flopped in 2008. He wanted to make Dhoom 3 soon after RNBDJ but couldn’t for the lack of a proper script and it was not possible to unite Adi’s dream cast including SRK and Kareena.

Now he has written a fresh and youthful love story that will be reminiscent of DDLJ. He has zeroed in on Ranbir Kapoor to star in it because not only is he a good actor, but he also has a chocolate boy image and is a rage among young girls. He fits the bill of a romantic hero perfectly. Ranbir is currently shooting for Rajneeti after which he will complete Siddharth Anand’s Anjana Anjani in a month. So he has enough dates next year and no one in his right senses would refuse Aditya Chopra.

The heroine of the film hasn’t been cast yet. Shooting for the film will start next year and like RNBDJ, which released at the end of 2008, this one is most likely to release in December 2010.

Ranbir Kapoor boarded the economy class to Mumbai in Airlines

Ran

Due to the recent Indian Airlines and Air India pilot strike, our Sid, er Ranbir Kapoor , boarded the economy class to fly from Bangalore to Mumbai.

According to sources, the ‘Wake Up Sid’ team, comprising of director Ayaan Mukherjee, actors Ranbir Kapoor and Konkona Sen Sharma , had been in Bangalore for the promotional activities of the movie. Ranbir had to return to Mumbai on Wednesday for a trial he was holding for close friends and family at Yashraj Studios. He tried to get last-minute business class tickets but because the number of the flights has been reduced drastically, he couldn’t get a ticket. He chose to travel economy class instead as he couldn’t miss his own trial.

But this is not the first time that the actor is traveling like this. He said that he travels by economy most of the time and he has no qualms about it. “I travel to Bhopal (for Rajneeti shooting) on a common class flight a lot and have no problems with it. I am not hell-bent on only flying business or first class,” revealed the actor.

Meanwhile, ‘Wake Up Sid’ (releasing tomorrow) seems to have already gone well with the audience. For, Ranbir said “People have started to refer to me as Sid even on my birthday last week so many people messaged me their greetings calling me Sid. Even on this flight, people called Sid and it is a nice feeling.”

Hey Sid, we are really waiting for you to wake up tomorrow!!
