After all the hype and the hoopla surrounding ’My Name Is Khan’ and it’s resounding success amid prickly controversies, Karan Johar is simply beaming away.
Reason: ’MNIK’ has roped in its first award! The MPAC (Muslim Public Affairs Council) handed out the honour at the 19th Annual Voices of Courage and Conscience Media Awards in Los Angeles.
Currently in US, K Jo is over the moon with happiness.
"It’s a matter of special pride," exults Johar in a tabloid talk. "The MPAC is a body which addresses Muslim causes especially from the Western perspective. I feel great that they’ve chosen to honour ’MNIK’ because its clear that the film has appealed to a common sentiment cutting across the barriers of age, sex and religion."
Apart from this, there’s more news to gladden K Jo’s heart. ’MNIK’ will be illumined at a screening at the famed art house ’The Angelika’ at New York.
"I’ve prepared a two hour version of the film especially for North American audiences," he says. "Many of those who’ve watched ’MNIK’ have come up to me and told me how various images from the film have made them draw a parallel with their own lives. It’s a great moment of pride for Shah Rukh and me."
